W.O.R.K.sHELP FOR FARM FAMILIES Work Opportunities for Rural Kansas is a program funded by the US Department of Labor and the KS Department of Human Resources. WORKS currently has funding available to assist farmers, ranchers and their families who are in post secondary education or who are about to start post secondary education to train for an off farm job. The program provides assistance with tuition, books, mileage and childcare. The is a grant and does not have to be paid back. The local office assisting is 785-625-4514. Call for more information.
KANSAS MASONIC FOUNDATION-Cynthia Ruth Russell Memorial Grant - is a grant for the physically challenged. To qualify, the Kansas resident must be planning to attends a Kansas post-secondary educational institution for 09-10 school year. You may request application by going to www.kmfonline.org.
OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO! COLLEGE SCHOLARHSHIP PROGRAM-If you are a high school senior and are interested in writing an essay. You could win a $5,000 scholarship. CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF MCCOOK- McCook Community College is happy to announce their new program Design Technology. This program has emerged from the traditional drafting and machine tool programs and prepares students for lucrative careers in a variety of fields of work. The program emphasizes the process of concept development and documentation through virtual designs, prototyping and computer aided manufacturing. KS BOARD OF REGENTS VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM- To apply for this scholarship must be a KS resident, a graduate from a KS high school, plan to enroll full time (12) hours in a designated vocational program in Kansas and take the designated vocational scholarship test. There is a $10 exam fee. The test dates for this scholarship is either October 31,09 or March 6, 10 and the location is at various vocational technical colleges in the state of Kansas. Goodland will be a location. Postmark deadlines for the October test date is October 15,09 and February 19, 10 is the deadline for the March 6,10 test. Please see the counselor for an application. KS NURSING SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP-This scholarship requires an obligation to practice nursing in Kansas and work for a sponsor. The sponsor will provide partial scholarship funding and provide employment upon licensure of the recipient. All applicants must complete the FAFSA. Deadline for this scholarship is April 1, 10. KANSAS TEACHER SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP- This service obligation scholarship program provides financial assistance to both students pursuing BS degree and current teachers. The teacher would then go to hard-to- find disciplines or either group planning to teach in an underserved geographic area. Hard to fill disciplines are Special Ed., Math, Science, Foreign Languages and English as a second Language. Deadline for this scholarship is April 1,09. See counselor for application.

* Over 70 HOBY Leadership Seminars take place each year throughout the country from March through June. Learn more about the calendar of the upcoming dates and locations. The Leadership Seminars are 3- or 4-days long and you must be present for the entire seminar, including overnight (lodging is provided).
* The World Leadership Congress (WLC) is held every summer in Washington, D.C. This is a week-long program and you must be present for the entire WLC, including overnight (lodging is provided). UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS HIXSON OPPORTUNITY AWARD- The Hixson Opportunity Award is designed for students who have faced significant challenges that may hinder their ability to attend college and thus, the award amounts are significant. Each recipient will have the opportunity to receive up to $20,000 for their educational expenses ($5,000 per year for up to 4 years). KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS- KFC is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify must have CGPA of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within their state, plan to pursue a BA and demonstrate financial need. THINK STERLING- Sterling offers competitive financial aid and scholarships. The average scholarship at Sterling this year is $8,000. Scholarships are based on academic background and also activity interests such as athletics , arts and leadership. With the Kansas competitive Grant along with good scholarships and of course, need based aid, it is not uncommon to see students come to Sterling for less money than they would have paid at KU or KSU. NORTHWEST KANSAS TECHNICAL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP- would like to offer a scholarship for those who qualify for a CTE scholarship. WSU PHYSICS DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS- The Physics Department at WSU offers several academic scholarships for full time and part time students enrolled as physics majors. AL-NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST- This program helps students receive a better understanding of the US, and gain a deeper respect and knowledge of duties as American citizens. For more information go to www.legion.org. Deadline for this is January 5, 10.
AL- MUSIC COMMITTEE SCHOLARSHIP- This is a $1,000 scholarship that is available to Kansas high school seniors who have distinguished themselves in the field of music and/or who will major or minor in music at an approved KS school.
AL-SHOOTING SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP- A $500 grant to Kansas high school senior who has participated in an American Legion Shooting Sports. The applicant must be an average or better student scholastically. Deadline is Feb. 15, 10. See Nancy for application.
AL- EAGLE SCOUT OF THE YEAR- This scholarship will be awarded to the Eagle Scout of the Year. The individual selected will be named by the National Commission. Application is due March 1, 10. See Nancy for application.
AL-HOBBLE(LPN) NURSING SCHOLARSHIP- This is an outright grant of $300 at the start of the first semester, awarded only upon acceptance and verification of enrollment by the scholarship winner in an accredited Kansas School. The applicant must have attained the age of 18 prior to taking the Kansas State Board Exam. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is both qualified and in need of financial aid. AL-CLICK COWGER BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP- This $500 scholarship is awarded to a Kansan who has participated in American Legion Baseball. The scholarship is paid directly to the school at the beginning of the semester in which the student enrolls. Deadline for this scholarship is July 15, 10. See Nancy for an application.
AL-AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL LEADERSHIP- This $1,000 is awarded to a Kansas to a certified baseball player whose name appears on American Legion Baseball’s form #1 that has been filed with National Headquarters. Deadline for this scholarship id July 15, 10. Pick up application from Nancy.

THE DIFFENKOFFER ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP- To Qualify offers tuition grants for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered high school seniors from Kansas or Missouri, have at least 2.75% and demonstrate how they have made a difference through community involvement and school activities. BETHANY SCHOLARSHIP-If you have a 3.5 GPA or higher, score 25 on ACT or higher and are in the top 25% of your graduating class you might be eligible for the prestigious Bethanian Scholarship. FARM CREDIT OF WESTERN KANSAS SCHOLARSHIP- To be eligible for this scholarship you must maintain at least 2.5 GPA, take more than 12 credits per semester and provides Farm Credit with an official transcript showing their cumulative GPA and credits earned to date on or before August 1-January 5 of the current academic year. ASSOCIATION OF MIGRANT DIRECTORS- COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP- Each year the Kansas Association of Migrant Directors awards college scholarships to deserving migrant workers. These are for 4 consecutive semesters. To qualify for this scholarship a student must be a current or formerly migrant student and must show financial need. The student’s GPA, school performance and goals for the future are taken into consideration. Pick up a form from Nancy. The deadline for this scholarship is March 15, 10.
KANSAS STATE CHAPTER OF ACACIA FRATERNITY- This a scholarship opportunity for young men who display motivation for personal success, and interest in studying the principles of leadership, and who plan to attend KSU in Manhattan. KACRAO SCHOLARSHIP- This scholarship is a reward and encourage students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. The scholarship is not need-based and may used in conjunction with other awards at the discretion of the Financial Aid office of the attending institution.
