You Be the Cartographer
A cartographer makes maps or charts.
This is your opportunity to be a cartographer. You are going to
design your own island. Your island must have a theme (like baseball,
chocolate, etc.). You will use your list of landforms and waterforms
to include with names that relate to the theme. Please follow these
instructions:
- Open AppleWorks
drawing.
- Draw the shape of your island -
this should be related to the theme you chose. This should just be
an outline.
- Create at least 5 landforms, 5
waterforms, and 5 population centers and add them to your island.
Each one must be recognized by its icon.
- You must include a legend. On the
legend use the icon that you designed for each landform,
waterform, and population center.
- Add a compass rose. This should be
small and not distract from the map.
- Add a bar scale in a blank area.
Mark the miles or kilometers that your bar scale
represents.
- Go to Format/Rulers/Ruler Settings.
Change the units to points.
- Add letter locators along the
bottom of the map. Add number locators along the side of the map.
Use the graphics grid so that you can put them evenly - in equal
increments apart.
- Add color to make your map unique
and attractive.
