Poetry Unit

This nine weeks we'll be enjoying poetry by many different poets. You will also get to be a poet as you learn to write many types of poems. Outlined here are the requirements for completing this poetry unit.

  1. Poetry Anthology - A poetry anthology is a collection of poems organized in a book. As you read poems from many different poets, keep track of the poems that you like the best.
    1. Collect at least 20 published poems. Copyright laws restrict you from copying more than 3 poems from the same poet. Try to collect a variety of styles of poems, including silly, serious, rhyming, etc.
    2. You must write at least 10 original poems to be included in your anthology.
      1. cinquain
      2. list poem
      3. I remember poem
      4. diamante & diamante with a twist

    3. You'll design an awesome cover for your anthology with a title, your name, the name of our publishing company, and a graphic.
    4. Add graphics or orignal artwork.
    5. Once you've typed all of your poems, decide on the order you want them in, then add page numbers. The last step is to design a Table of Contents.
  2. Choose a favorite poem - this could be your own original poem or that of another poet. Record yourself reading the poem in Garage Band then add your own original music. Let me know if you need to use the piano keyboard.
  3. Choose another poem to be showcased in Keynote. Add appropriate pictures and music. Your own 'I Remember Poem' would be great for this. Do you have photos or can you take photos of the things you put in your 'I Remember Poem'?
  4. Create a poster of a famous poet. The poster must include a picture of the poet and one of his/her poems.
